701 Oakland Ave

Extensive renovation and addition to 1930's Old West Austin house.

701 Oakland Ave Extensive renovation and addition to 1930's Old West Austin house. Addition of a new detached garage and studio apartment. The Owner bought this house in barely livable condition. It required all updated MEP systems as well as extensive renovation throughout. Originally a duplex, it was converted to a single family residence with a new entry area at the front. Throughout the first floor cased openings were used to flood the spaces with natural light but retain their historic character. A new master bath and bedroom were retrofitted within the existing upstairs as well as a small library, guest area and an additional office area. The detached garage is a historical precedent that can be seen througout the old Austin areas, and the Owners wanted to recreate this look. The building served as a garage and workshop with a loft appartment/studio upstairs.
