Extensive Renovation & Addition to a 1960's Ranch House in South Austin
A busy family attorney and her two children needed a larger, more livable space. In 2009, we overhauled the existing house and expanded the footprint to house a new formal dining area and master suite. Stripping the house to the stud and adding onto the back, we created a dedicated entry area and an open formal living area and revamped the fireplace. The kitchen was redesigned to maintain its proportion to the overall house while adding substantial cabinet/pantry storage and counter space for eating, serving and working. We also carved out a new laundry room, a fun bathroom for the kids and added special touches such as window seats and closet millwork for the kids' bedrooms as well as an adjacent informal living area. Finally, we coffered ceilings above the formal living area, the main entry and the dining area to add intimacy without sacrificing openness.
In 2015, we returned to redesign the outdoor deck to give it more of a connection with the living, kitchen and dining areas and effectively increase her entertaining space. Then we added a casita to provide her with a flex space to enjoy with family and visitors alike.
