Houston Heights Guest House

A New Detached Guest House and Adjoining Deck

Our Clients wanted to expand their property to accommodate both short-term and long-term guests as well as potential lessees, without changing the current quaint character and proportion of their early 1900's Houston Heights bungalow. They also wanted to achieve this while remaining consistent with the Craftsman look of the neighborhood. We approached the project as an opportunity to create a seamless look between two carefully delineated structures by connecting old and new with a deck. The new structure is consistent with building materials and style but is pushed back from the street to allow it to stand clearly apart from the original structure. Inside the small vaulted structure each space flows to the next allowing it to 'live large.' A tiny screened-in-porch fronts the building and offers the users the same connection to the street that is characteristic throughout the neighborhood.
